Experience: Richard T. Picciochi has been a forensic scientist since 1980. He is retired
from the NYPD Forensic Investigation Division where he was a detective, document
analyst, and the Technical Supervisor in the Questioned Document Unit. He is currently
a private consultant, professor of forensic sciences at Hofstra University, and has trained
government document examiners.
In the course of his career Mr. Picciochi has examined thousand of cases and has been
qualified to testify numerous times as an expert in civil, criminal, and administrative courts.
Education and Training: Mr. Picciochi earned a Master of Science degree with a
concentration in the forensic sciences in 1980 and a Bachelor of Science degree with a
concentration in the natural sciences in 1977. He has completed extensive formal and
practical training with the NYPD, FBI, Secret Service and continues to attend specialized
workshops and symposia.
Certification: Mr. Picciochi is a Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Document
Examiners (ABFDE) and was awarded certification upon completion of comprehensive
written, practical, and oral examinations.
The ABFDE is an independent certifying body established to identify qualified forensic
specialists and to promote the advancement of forensic document examination. The
ABFDE is accredited by the Forensic Specialties Accreditation Board of the American
Academy of Forensic Sciences.
